In mei 2020 concludeerde het BCFI dat er op basis van de toen beschikbare&#x002C; zeer beperkte gegevens geen plaats was voor azithromycine bij COVID-19&#x002C; noch in de eerste lijn&#x002C; noch in het ziekenhuis (zie ons Goed om te weten-bericht in <a href='https:\/\/www.bcfi.be\/nl\/articles\/3352?folia=3342'>Folia mei 2020<\/a>. <strong>Recente gegevens bevestigen dit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Een <strong>Britse studie (PRINCIPLE)&#x002C; een gerandomiseerd onderzoek uitgevoerd in de eerste lijn<\/strong>&#x002C; vond geen voordeel van azithromycine ten opzichte van \u201cusual care\u201d in termen van tijd tot herstel of nood voor hospitalisatie (primaire eindpunten) [<a href='https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(21)00461-X\/fulltext'>The Lancet&#x002C; online 04\/03\/21<\/a>].<span class='folia-referentie-note'><strong><sup>1<\/sup><\/strong><\/span> De studie betrof pati\u00ebnten met bewezen of (op basis van symptomen) vermoede COVID-19 en met risicofactoren voor ernstig verlopende COVID-19.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Ook <strong>in het ziekenhuis<\/strong> \u00a0is geen plaats voor azithromycine [zie <a href='https:\/\/covid-19.sciensano.be\/nl\/procedures\/externe-documenten'>Sciensano<\/a>&#x002C; <em>Interim clinical guidance for adults with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 in Belgium<\/em> (<a href='https:\/\/covid-19.sciensano.be\/sites\/default\/files\/Covid19\/COVID-19_InterimGuidelines_Treatment_ENG.pdf'>versie 09\/03\/21<\/a>).
